An extremely basic editor for Android devices has been released on the Android Market!

Wikidot Editor on the Android Market

This was actually part of an assignment at University, but I intend to continue working on it - starting by fixing the bugs listed in the application description.

Please download it, try it out, and provide some feedback in the form of a rating and review on the market. As new versions are released, you can then update that review, straight from your phone!

Let me know what you think when you have a chance to try it :)

The most important bug to keep in mind is this one:

Must change orientation after returning from settings screen, otherwise import and export do not work correctly

After saving your settings, you need to change the orientation of the screen between portrait/landscape, otherwise import and export don't work properly. Not sure why.

Yeahh. When trying to import/export (i didn't wrote my api key) it writes a message on the screen "Import/Export failed please check you api key…..". It would be more better if STE throws a message instead writing on the screen and making me erase. And i have a wish: it's very difficult if you don't have your computer because you need to open Opera Mini and write the api on a paper and then…. Anyway… I need a simpler method to get the api key from my android. And why are you using another icon instead the STE icon? The STE icon is much much better and the quality of the new one is very low on my android…

I would like it to do this as well. As the current version was my first attempt at Android development it is still a bit buggy.

And i have a wish: it's very difficult if you don't have your computer because you need to open Opera Mini and write the api on a paper and then…. Anyway… I need a simpler method to get the api key from my android.

Agreed. I plan to make it easier to open the website to get your API key.

Note that you don't need paper and a pen… just copy and paste the key! :) Much easier.

In future it will remember your key, so you don't need to keep putting it in manually.

And why are you using another icon instead the STE icon? The STE icon is much much better and the quality of the new one is very low on my android…

This is a separate application, with a different name, for a different platform… so I'm went with a different icon. I'm willing to change the icon if you have any artistic skills and can come up with a better one :) I'm not that great with graphics editing myself.

As for the quality - I have bundled three different quality icons into the application. Your android device should automatically detect which one it needs and use that.

Could you please tell me:

  • The make and model of your device
  • Screen resolution
  • Are you using plain Android, or has your vendor put their own custom version on there? (e.g. HTC puts HTC Sense on their phones, which is a modified version of Android with a better UI)

  • Model: LG Optimus One
  • Resolution: HVGA (480 x 320)
  • Are you using plain Android, or has your vendor put their own custom version on there?: what's a plain android?

Ah, and about that artistic skills… I've made a few icon packs and put them on the icondeposit but i don't think i'm good at logos.

Okay, LG seems to just put the stock Android 2.2 Froyo on their phones from what I can tell with a bit of quick research. Other companies modify the OS to match their standards before shipping phones with it, e.g. HTC and Samsung, and this could potentially change compatibility so that's why I was asking about that.

Also, your screen resolution seems to match my HTC Desire HD, and the icon seems to be the correct resolution there - so I'm not sure what is going on with your phone.

Hmm.

That STE logo you used here:

would be much better for the Android app.
