05 Jul 2011 04:40. Edited 1 times. (Edit, Permalink) Here's a video preview of the next version of STE. Anyone that has donated will receive an early copy of this release shortly, whilst everyone else will receive it in a couple of days time. Note that you can view a list of changes to all versions of the application (including those that haven't been released yet) on the change log page. Thoughts? Suggestions? Complaints? Let me know what you think! Included page "inc:signature" does not exist (create it now) |

05 Jul 2011 10:14. Edited 1 times. (Edit, Permalink) Do you know what? I just realised, this is very much a feature you could promote! I mean, so many times my web browser has crashed or something tragic has happened, and I've lost the data I've entered into a Wikidot page editor. That's happened so many times to me as well. Also happens with comments, which STE currently does not support. Included page "inc:signature" does not exist (create it now) |

How often does STE / Java stop responding? Could you let me know:
I'll be interested to know if the automatic backup works for Windows when programs stop responding. I am only able to test on Mac OS X because I re-introduced this bug temporarily, which allows me to crash the program at will and make sure the automatic backup system works as it should. 05 Jul 2011 11:48. Edited 1 times. (Edit, Permalink) As for Mac OS X at least, no it doesn't. Force closing the application counts as a regular exit, I think. Included page "inc:signature" does not exist (create it now) |

(Edit, Permalink) In an attempt to help… I'm guessing that Windows is attempting to use paging on your hard drive & isn't doing a very good job of choosing which pages to load into memory (leading to page faults). According to this article you can optimise this (look for "Step 2. Manually manage computer memory"). Disabling some effects (Step 3) might help too. I'd recommend choosing "Custom" and disabling as much as you are willing to, as if you choose "for best performance" usually it disables everything - and makes Windows look weird. Of course, it's also a good idea not to open too many applications. Hopefully, messing around with those settings improves things for you. The absolute best option though, would be to completely wipe your hard drive clean and re-install Windows XP from scratch. You'll probably have to hunt around for a few drivers and re-install a few of your favourite applications, but you'll get a massive performance boost. 08 Jul 2011 05:25. Edited 0 times. (Edit, Permalink) This blog post of mine has some information about the built-in defragmenter tool: http://shane.wikify.me/blog:116 But to actually find it, I believe you need to look at Start > Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Disk Defragmenter (or somewhere around there). Buying a new laptop would be a more expensive solution, but as long as you shop around you can get a reasonably priced one that is also powerful enough for your needs. As long as you get a proper notebook (not a netbook), it will have Windows 7 installed - and that is much, much more reliable than XP. Included page "inc:signature" does not exist (create it now) |
